I’m always looking for easy toddler recipes that I can make ahead and have ready for busy mornings or snack time. Bonus points if I can make a big batch and put some in the freezer.

These banana blueberry oatmeal muffins check all of those boxes. They’re made with ripe bananas, blueberries and old-fashioned oats, and you don’t need flour or a blender to make them. Just mash, mix and bake.

I especially love these for breakfast because I can grab one from the refrigerator or freezer instead of figuring out what to make first thing in the morning. They also work as an easy toddler snack or lunchbox addition.

Why I Love These Banana Blueberry Oatmeal Muffins

The biggest selling point for me is how easy these are to make. There’s no blender, food processor or complicated prep involved. I use whole old-fashioned oats, so everything can be mixed together in one bowl.

The ripe bananas add natural sweetness, while the blueberries make them a little more fun. I add a small amount of maple syrup too, but most of the sweetness comes from the bananas and blueberries.

They’re also great for meal prep. Make a batch when you have time, keep a few in the refrigerator and freeze the rest for later.

  • Prep time: About 10 minutes

  • Bake time: 18–22 minutes

  • Oven temperature: 350°F

  • Storage: Up to 5 days in the refrigerator or freeze for longer

  • Best for: Toddler breakfasts, snacks and lunchboxes

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/2 cup whole milk

  • 1/4 cup maple syrup

  • 1/4 cup melted butter or neutral oil

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 cups old-fashioned oats

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 cup blueberries

How to Make Banana Blueberry Oatmeal Muffins

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease or line a muffin tin.

2. Peel the bananas and place them in a large mixing bowl. Mash well with a fork.

3. Add the eggs, milk, maple syrup, melted butter and vanilla extract. Stir until everything is combined.

4. Add the old-fashioned oats, cinnamon, baking powder and baking soda. Mix until combined.

5. Gently fold in the blueberries.

6. Divide the mixture evenly between the muffin cups.

7. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the muffins are set in the center.

8. Let the muffins cool before serving.

Do I Need to Blend the Oats?

No, and that's one of the reasons I like this recipe. I use old-fashioned oats straight from the container, so there’s no need to turn them into oat flour first.

The finished muffins have a heartier texture than a traditional flour-based muffin, but skipping the blender makes the recipe much easier. Fewer steps and fewer dishes are always a plus for me.

Can I Use Frozen Blueberries?

Yes. You can use fresh or frozen blueberries for these muffins. If you're using frozen blueberries, you don't need to thaw them first. Fold them into the batter while they're still frozen.

Can You Freeze Banana Blueberry Oatmeal Muffins?

Yes. These are exactly the kind of toddler recipe I like to keep in the freezer.

Once the muffins have cooled completely, I put the extras in a freezer-safe container or bag. When we need one, I take it out and warm it in the microwave. Start with about 30 seconds and add more time if necessary, depending on your microwave and the size of your muffins. Always make sure the center has cooled to a safe temperature before serving it to your toddler.

How Long Do Banana Oatmeal Muffins Last?

I keep these muffins in the refrigerator for up to five days. Anything we aren't going to eat within that time goes into the freezer.

I especially like having them ready for mornings when we need breakfast quickly. Instead of making something from scratch, I can grab a muffin and add fruit, yogurt or whatever else we're having that morning.

Are Banana Blueberry Oatmeal Muffins Good for Toddler Lunchboxes?

Yes. These are easy to pack in a toddler or preschool lunchbox because you can make them ahead of time and serve them cold or at room temperature.

They're also nut-free as written, which can make them an easier option for schools and daycares with nut-free policies. I would still check your individual school's allergy guidelines before sending any homemade food.

Can I Make These Without Blueberries?

Absolutely. You can leave the blueberries out for simple banana oatmeal muffins or swap them for another mix-in your toddler likes.

Mini chocolate chips would be an easy variation. You could also divide the batter and make half blueberry and half chocolate chip so you get two different options from one batch.
